About this event

Each month at CoderDojoDSM, students age 9+ work on coding, building a website, creating a game, programming a robot, or simply exploring technology in a less-structured, creative, and social environment. There is no group instruction. Rather, local professional technologists serving as volunteer mentors help students as they work on projects of their choice.

Is your student completely new to coding? No problem. We'll have tutorials and ideas students can pick from to start their own project. CoderDojoDSM is free and students of all skill levels are welcome.

  • A parent or guardian is required to complete the registration.
  • Please review our Program Policy before registering.
  • Youth under the age of 13 require a parent or guardian to be present during the meetup.

NOTE: If you need to cancel a reservation, please contact us so the reservation may be made available to someone else.

Frequently asked questions

How old does my student need to be to attend a meetup?

Students age 9 and above are welcome. All students under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent during the Dojo.

Do I need to stay with my student at the meetup?

All students under age 13 must have an adult present during the meetup. We encourage all parents and guardians to sit with their student and engage in the learning process.

Do we need to bring anything?

Yes, bring a positive attitude, willingness to learn and desire to have fun. Students are also welcome to bring a laptop if he/she has access to one. We have a limited number of laptops that can be borrowed if needed.

Do students need prior knowledge or experience to attend?

No prior knowledge or skill is necessary. Any student can learn to code.

What will my student learn?

That depends on your student. The CoderDojo format is based on self-led learning. Students work on projects of their choice while they follow tutorials or explore technology on their own. There is no group instruction.

My student has done lots of coding so will he/she still benefit from attending?

Yes. Most mentors are experienced technology professionals with advanced skills and understanding of more difficult concepts. Your student will benefit working with these mentors and talking through more advanced concepts or complex problems.

What does it cost to attend?

CoderDojo meetups are free thanks to our volunteers, sponsors and the international CoderDojo community.
